Learn How To See Your Life From a New Perspective.

Bowenwork® gives you a chance to see how interconnected your body is. In a session, there are therapeutic wait times of 2 to 5 minutes in which you notice how your body immediately responds to simple instructions, given to the body in the form of specific gentle stretches over certain muscles and tendons. You get into the groove of deep breathing and unwinding within your tissues, sometimes located on the opposite side of the body. You meditate upon the shifting energies within the body as it regulates freed up resources that can be repurposed to areas of the body that require energy to repair, resolve, and correct in other ways. These moves start vibrations intended to regulate entire muscle “trains” that run from the feet to the head in the front, back, and/or sides of the body. It’s a fascinating journey of peaceful transformation using your own power in response to gentle (non-forceful) instructions.

Custom Plans

Each body is different and requires different Bowenwork® procedures and combinations along with specific Tom Bowen recommendations to address tension spots and/or symptoms that you have. Emotional release is a regular occurrence and to be expected. Emotions are recorded chemical signatures in the cells of the body and as the body safely releases excess stored chemicals, you will “feel” the same emotions in a lesser degree. You can aid in the process of release by drinking more water after session and giving your body the time it needs to release before adding other body modalities like massage or chiropractic care for the space of 5 to 7 days. Walking for a short period each day afterward is also recommended to help move the lymph and aid safe removal of toxins as well.

How I can Help

I will design a specific Bowenwork® session with your needs in mind. I will give you the information that Tom Bowen recommended for overcoming injuries and chronic conditions. My food advice is free and non binding. If you would like further help in the form of specific vitamins and supplements, I advise things from a plant sources and I don’t make a profit from them. I recommend what the ancients did, that food may be your medicine. They are mild food and herbs and not from somebody making a ludicrous profit off of the exchange.

About Andrea

Bowenwork® Practitioner and Instructor

I discovered Bowenwork® in 2008 when I was experiencing excruciating carpal tunnel symptoms. I was asked by a friend at a picnic if she could do some moves on my arm that she had just learned. I readily agreed because I couldn’t even pick up my sons and I felt that my career as a musician and teacher of music was at an end. She took my arms and did some tiny little moves that took most of the pain away right away. After 3 sessions the pain was gone permanently. I certified in 2009 and moved to Utah in 2011 and became an instructor of Bowenwork® in 2015. I still play and teach music and I feel blessed that I could retain full use of my arms to perform music and to help others to regain their health with Bowenwork.

Before a Session

When you decide to book a session, I will let you know if there are special preparations in case of swelling on the joint in question or other circumstances. Usually you come to a session in comfortable clothes that you can lay in for an hour and relax. I request that you use sweatpants in place of jeans if jeans are your comfortable clothes.

During a Session

Deep breathing helps facilitate the Bowenwork moves. I like to follow the breathing when rolling through the move so that releasing happens at the same time. I will train you how to breathe and emphasize how important it is to continue the practice between sessions.

You will lay face down, fully clothed upon a comfortable table and covered with a sheet.

You may talk or remain silent and consider how your body is responding to the work.

There will be 2-8 moves in specific locations and 2 minute waits in between.

After a Session

It is encouraged to drink more water than usual on a Bowenwork session day because of the releasing of toxins that is known to happen as a result of the session. It is encouraged to continue breathing deeply as often as you recognize your breath. It is encouraged to walk at least 20 minutes a day to incorporate the new balance points set in session and circulate lymph. It is encouraged to avoid other forms of bodywork for the space of 5 to 7 days to allow your body to respond to the instructions given in session. You may also be given self-help instructions to continue to coordinate balance points set in session.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you give presentations to groups?
I love giving presentations to groups! My introductory presentations can be as short as 15 minutes and up to an hour in length and include a demonstration. I require 3 weeks notice. These presentations are free but I may require transportation fees depending upon the location.
Is there a small class that I can take?

If you would like to learn 15 moves that you can use on your family and friends, you can sign up for an “Introduction to Bowenwork” class. It’s a 4-hour hands-on class that gives you the basic formulation of each Bowenwork move. It costs $95 and includes a manual. It’s worth 4 CEU for massage therapists and Bowenwork certification (500 hour certification). Contact me for the next class dates.

What are the Requirements to become a Practitioner?

All of the requirements are listed at the American Bowen Academy. You can find the class dates listed on the site as well. You can take each class from different teachers and travel around the country or the world if you desire. All of my upcoming classes are under the classes tab at this website: AmericanBowen.Academy

Is it Safe and Effective?

There are studies from around the world that proves Bowenwork to be a safe and effective modality. In 2012, Christine Hansen of Tuscon, AZ proved in her pilot study that Bowenwork is both safe and effective. The cohort for her study were women with post-mastectomy lymphodema. This cohort are notorious for not following through in any study that would cause further pain to their bodies. But in the case of Bowenwork, the participants gladly finished the whole course of sessions and the only problem they had was not being able to get sessions during their chemo/radiation which would have, in their opinions, greatly facilitated their comfort and recovery. Click on the Studies page for more.

Will it fix my complaint?

I don’t claim to fix, treat or cure anything.

I enjoy helping women to regulate their periods and become conditioned toward the massive endeavor of a healthy pregnancy and depression-free motherhood.
